“Cosmos”, originated from greek, “kosmos”, meaning “order”, was used to describe our world. The greek thought the world is a system arranged of beauty.
In the modern sense, the word “cosmos” represents the all encompassing “being” that is the reality. The “time” and “space” in which we indulge in the ritual called “life”. The “reality” that was named by many geneartions of philosophers who came before us. And all the laws which governs the universe
The cosmos is all of the past that has happened and not happened, all of the futrue that has occured and cannot occuur, it is a collection of possibilities, all governed by the same law.
The cosmos is material, but abstract. it is history, and present, and the future.
To study cosmology, is akin to an ant attempting to understand the vastness and the hierarchy of the forest. perhpas the ants may never understand it, and it accepts the “reality” that it may forever be blinded by its ignorane. Thus, the ant questions its own understanding, beliefs and intellegence.
Does that make the ant dishonourable, or that it is not confident of its beliefs?
The ant wonders. But as long as it continues to inquire, to question, and to doubt, it will eventually become the seeker, not the believer.
Perhaps the “truth”, is never about how firmly one belives in it, but how it withstands the questioning of one’s own beliefs.
May we all become the timid ant which sought its own place in the cosmos.
